Mendocino is a playground for artists, and Kevin Milligan’s gorgeous oil paintings capture the breathtaking beauty and historic charm that have beguiled so many. “Mendocino took me by surprise,” says Milligan. “I’d never seen any pictures of it, had no idea there was such a place anywhere in California: Victorian architecture mixed with seaside cottages and wild-west false fronts, set against grassy fields and the ever-changing Pacific.” Eight of Kevin Milligan’s original paintings and three of his father Guy Milligan’s paintings are showcased alongside black and white photos of the historic buildings and landscapes that inspired them.  Kevin Milligan conducted research on the history of the buildings at the Kelley House Museum, which he shares in his beautiful coffee table book, Mendocino: A Painted Pictorial.

Kevin Milligan grew up in Missouri and attended the Kansas City Art Institute. He moved to California in 1981 and has owned galleries in Mendocino and Danville. Milligan’s art can be viewed in his two books: Mendocino: A Painted Pictorial (available for sale at the Kelley House Museum); and Big Sur to Mendocino.
