 Museum Outreach Coordinator Job Announcement

The Kelley House Museum in Mendocino, California seeks a Museum Outreach Coordinator responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing outreach initiatives that enhance the museum’s visibility. This role involves bringing educational programs and exhibits directly to the community, organizing special events, and cultivating meaningful connections to expand the organization’s reach. The position supports both the Director and the Curator in executing the museum’s mission.

This is a 24 to 32-hour a week position that reports to the Director. Weekends required.
Salary  $23/hour.

Core Responsibilities

  • Program Development: Plans and executes exhibit receptions, speaker series, and partnership events.
  • Murder, She Wrote Festival: Assists director with the development and execution of this annual spring fundraiser.
  • Education: Refines k-12 program offerings, develops relationships with local schools, coordinates museum staffing for field trips.
  • Outreach Communications: Assists with marketing and publicity, including online event postings and flyering. Writes articles for publication as needed.
  • Volunteer Coordinator: Coordinates monthly schedule of volunteer museum docents and walking tour guides. Recruits, co-trains and supervises new volunteers.
  • Walking Tours: Learns and gives 2 walking tours/week during high season, 1/week or as needed during off season.
  • Evaluation & Reporting: Gather feedback and survey data to evaluate program effectiveness, which supports grant reporting needs. Prepares brief monthly report for Board of Directors.
  • Museum Support: Supports Curator with exhibit and archival duties as needed, and supports Director with operations as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Familiarity with event coordination, outreach, and community engagement.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to engage comfortably with public.
  • Schedule: Weekend shifts required.
