By Rhett, The Kelley House Goose
I really appreciate all the concern expressed by the community over the last several weeks regarding the delicate condition of my beak. My friend and Kelley House Board member, Loretta McCoard, took me to see veterinarian Karen Novak at her new office in Mendocino. As best as Karen can tell, I somehow picked up a fungus, which infected my beak. Loretta is helping me take my antibiotics and monitoring my condition. (She sneaks the pills into my bread, and I pretend not to notice.)
The Kelley House has been my home since 2005, when friends Ruth and Holm Kappler brought me and my partner, Betty, from the ranch in Lake County. My fellow geese and I are well cared for, and friendly people stop by every day to talk to us. My only disappointment is the lack of water in the pond these last few years, but I make due with the portable bathing facilities that Loretta has provided. My thanks to everyone for their concerned about my health and to Karen Novak at Village Veterinary for donating her services for wildlife care.
