Moonlight Cemetery Tour

On Saturday evening, May 29 from 8 to 10 pm, enjoy a Moonlight Walk in the Cemetery with Historian Martin Simpson.  Hear early pioneers of Mendocino “tell their stories”.

Mendocino Historic District Walking Tours take place at 11 AM on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Visit the grand buildings of the 1800s, such as the Temple of Kwan Tai, the Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Temple.

All walks start at the Kelley House Museum, 45007 Albion Street, Mendocino.

Student History Contest Winners

Heritage Days of Mendocino County got underway on Friday, April 30, with the Student Local History Contest award ceremony at the Kelley House Museum. Mendocino students from grades 3-5, 7 and 8 participated by creating local history projects. Many of the students used the Kelley House archives to do their research. The judges found it very challenging to select winners from the many well-deserving projects.

Grand Prize: Jazmine Atherton-Walsh, 4th grade, “Morgan-Mullen House”
1st Place Winners: Madison Hypes, 4th grade, “Streets of Mendocino”
Lauren Bischop, 3rd grade, “The Bench”
2nd Place Winners: Erin Thomas, 8th grade, “Lyon Family”
Rowan Kawezak, 5th grade, “Haunted Past”
3rd Place Winners: Emily Madden, 3rd grade, “History of Garbage”
Shea McColley, 3rd grade, “The Guest House”
Honorable Mention: Rilley Iversen, 3rd grade, “Iversen Family”
Emily Burnett, 3rd grade, “My House”
Misha Kopelman, 3rd grade, “Old Engine House”

Prize winners will have their projects on display at the Savings Bank in Mendocino Tuesday, May 4-31. We want to thank the Savings Bank of Mendocino, Out of this World, Gallery Bookshop and Frankie’s for their generous donations of prizes.
